Energy Diagnostic Services

The home performance tests and energy audit we conduct focus on how well your home functions as a complete system. The building shell, insulation, heating/cooling systems, and the ventilation all work together to keep you comfortable and healthy. In building science this is known as “house as a system.”When we audit and test your home these are the things we look at to evaluate how well your home is performing:
  • The air leaks in/out of your home’s walls, ceilings and floors.
  • How much insulation you have, how well it is insulated, and how it is functioning.
  • Indoor moisture levels.
  • Ventilation systems to make sure you are breathing healthy indoor air.
  • Carbon monoxide levels in the house from carbon monoxide sources (gas stove, furnace, hot water heater).
  • Heating and cooling equipment condition, efficiencies, and sizing.
  • We check how tight the duct systems are and leak testing.
  • We test for pressure balance throughout the living space that can cause comfort and/or safety issues.
In addition to the tests above we analyze your gas and electric bills to help identify where your energy dollars are flowing. We look for potential opportunities for you to save energy and money by repairing or replacing inefficient lighting or appliances.

Infrared Thermography

The Infrared Camera is among our most valuable tools for diagnosing energy efficiency during an energy audit. By scanning the interior of the living space in infrared (like an X-ray for your home), we can pinpoint areas of weakness in your building's envelop, insulation, duct system, windows and doors. These images suggest the most cost-effective points for home improvements, which we help guide our clients to complete after the energy audit.
